NATURE PROGRAMME

The children at the Field and Study Montessori Preschool are exposed to the wonders of nature with our beautiful, nature based learning environment . The importance of nature can be lost within the young children due to their rich multi-media and technologically based environments. A nature based setting is the most powerful tool to develop children’s intellectual, emotional, social and physical development and has numerous benefits.

Our Nature Based Learning Programme includes:

  • Nature walks in the park

  • Feeding the ducks at the river

  • Feeding the horses at the stables

  • Bird watching

  • Art activities with nature.  E.g. Bark wax rubbing, sand drawing, pressing of flowers and leaves

  • Picking of wild flowers and fruits

  • Collecting leaves, pine cones and nature items

  • Caring of plants in the school garden including planting and watering of plants

  • Creating art forms outside with items found in their nature setting

  • Nature treasure hunts

  • Gross motor skills with nature E.g. Throwing pine cones into a bucket, pebble mazes

  • Feeding and caring of the rabbits

  • Raking leaves and climbing of trees

  • Picnics in the park

  • Tree trunk hopping

  • Fun games in the park

  • I spy games in the park

  • Looking after our environment by picking up of litter

“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature, to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature… so that the child may better understand and participate in the marvellous things which civilisation creates.”
